My name is Lukas Van Lishout and I’m currently based in South Africa. In 2023, I began a new chapter of life on the road, overlanding through Southern and Eastern Africa with a strong focus on safaris and wildlife photography.

Talking about myself has never been my strongest skill, but here we go.

I grew up in Belgium and lived there until my early twenties, when I decided to spend my final year of college abroad in Cape Town, South Africa. What was meant to be a six-month adventure slowly turned into several years, as my love for Cape Town, and for Africa as a whole, grew stronger every day. It was here, in this extraordinary city and continent, that my passion for both photography and travel truly began.

People often ask where the name Vanlisht comes from. With a very Flemish surname (thanks, Dad), I quickly learned that many people abroad struggled to pronounce “Van Lishout.” While travelling, I often heard versions like “Van Lishoet” or “Van Lisht.” I grew fond of the latter and it stuck. Today, many friends in South Africa simply call me Vanlisht. Some even call me Seydou… but that’s a story for another time.

Now, the part I love most: photography and travel.

Every photograph on this website was taken by me. I believe in keeping images as natural as possible and avoid excessive editing. What you see is what I experienced in the wild. While I have a soft spot for the big cats, as you’ll notice in the gallery, my goal is always the same: to capture the raw beauty of the moment in front of me.

Over the past few years, I’ve also been organizing trips, safaris and journeys throughout Africa. Each itinerary is fully tailor-made and never predefined. Having travelled extensively across the continent, I love sharing my favorite places, experiences, and hidden gems with others who share the same sense of adventure.
